The Ebor Festival is one of the most historic race meetings in the world and has a history that spans more than 180 years. Another chapter of the meeting’s history is about to be written in 2025, with the racing set to get underway on Wednesday 21st August. This will be the first of four enthralling days of world-class racing that is set to capture the imagination of fans from around the world.

Anticipation is growing, and there is a great chance of memorable moments this year. Before the action gets underway, let’s look back at some of the most memorable moments from past meetings.

Firstly, let’s rewind back to 2012 and to that year’s Group 1 Juddmonte International, which was the penultimate race of the career of legendary horse Frankel. The son of Galileo, Frankel won all of his fourteen career starts, earning him legendary status in the sport, and deservedly so. These victories were by a combined margin of 76 ¼ lengths.

Day 1 – Wednesday 20th August: Juddmonte International Stakes Day

  • Juddmonte International (G1, ~1m2½f)
  • Entry list features proven Group 1 scorers—Field Of Gold (15/2), Ombudsman (2/1), with Delacroix (13/8) emerging as a live favourite following his Eclipse Stakes win
  • Whirl (10/1) may challenge after impressive Goodwood showings.

Also on the card:

  • Great Voltigeur Stakes (G2) – key pre‑St Leger trial for three-year-olds.
  • Acomb Stakes (G3) – showcase for promising juveniles.

Day 2 – Thursday 21st August: Yorkshire Oaks & Ladies’ Day

  • Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks (G1) – for fillies and mares (~1m4f). Traditionally dominated by three‑year‑olds trained by top stables like O’Brien & Haggas.
  • Supporters like the Lowther Stakes highlight juvenile speed.

Day 3 – Friday 22nd August: Nunthorpe Stakes Day

  • Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) – premier 1000 m (5 f) sprint in Europe. Finishing times often sub‑57 seconds.
  • Watch out for Jm Jungle (14/1), recent King George Stakes (Goodwood) winner at 14‑1, now being aimed at York – flying sprinter with strong form.

Day 4 – Saturday 23rd August: Sky Bet Ebor Day

  • Sky Bet Ebor Handicap (Class 2, ~1m6f) – Europe’s richest staying handicap. Trends: winners usually have a top last‑5 speed figure and recent win within last 9 starts..
  • City of York Stakes (new G1, ~7 f) – ante‑post favourite appears to be Rosallion (2/1), close second Lazzat (9/2) if confirmed after Royal Ascot form.
