    Australian Open Tennis - 2022

The Australian Open is held over the last fortnight of January at Melbourne Park, Melbourne.
The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam events held each year. (French Open, Wimbledon & US Open follow)
Prior to 1988 it was played on grass courts, but since 1988 hardcourt surfaces have taken over. Nicknamed 'the happy slam' the tournament is the highest attended Grand Slam event with over 800,000 attending in recent years. It was the first tournament to feature indoor play during wet or extreme heat and the Rod Laver, John Cain and Margaret Court arenas, with their retractable roofs will be ready for any weather.
As with all of the top sporting events, the Australian Open has been hit by covid related stories and some big names will be missing for either covid related issues or ongoing injuries. These unfortunately include Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Dominic Thiem. Novak Djokovic, the current champion has controversially been awarded a medical exemption letter to play and Naomi Osaka the current womens champ is returning to defend her crown after a year of headline news off the court. This should be a very interesting year.
Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev head up the dangers to Djokovic this year and the womens draw looks very open, with Ashleigh Barty (the home favourite), Osaka and Emma Raducanu amongst the headliners. The tournament begins on 17th January and concludes with the womens final on 29th January, followed by the Mens Final on 30th January. Doubles and mixed doubles tournaments will run concurrently.
Joe Jennings Bookmakers have prices available on most markets now and will be pricing up throughout the tournament , including in play betting and specials markets.
(Mens prices to follow after we have a decision on N Djokovic)
